Carlson and Tramel Leaving Oklahoman

There was some big breaking news in the world of sports media in Oklahoma over the weekend.

It had been rumored for a couple of weeks, but it became official that both Berry Tramel and Jenni Carlson are leaving the Daily Oklahoman.

Trammel has been the Oklahoman’s No. 1 sports columnist for some time and had been with the paper since 1991. Carlson, also a columnist, had been with the paper since 1999.

Both have been staples in the state’s sports writing scene, and both also have ran into some controversies. Carlson’s article on the benching of Oklahoma State quarterback Bobby Reid led to the “I’m a man I’m 40” rant from Cowboy head coach Mike Gundy in 2007.

Meanwhile Tramel gained nationwide notoriety for his postgame run-ins with former Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook during the mid-2010s.

Neither have publicly announced their next plans.
