Eagles Split in Winfield

Oklahoma Wesleyan came away with a split on the road Wednesday night at Southwestern, as the Lady Eagles picked up a solid conference win while the men came up just short in a tight contest. The women pulled away in the second half for a 66–53 victory, while the men dropped an 83–80 decision after a high-scoring first half.
In the women’s game, OKWU turned a close opening half into a comfortable win with a strong third-quarter surge. The Eagles outscored Southwestern 23–16 in the period, using efficient shooting and balanced scoring to build a lead the Builders couldn’t erase. Oklahoma Wesleyan shot nearly 58 percent in the third quarter and controlled the tempo the rest of the way to seal the 13-point victory.
The men’s game was a different story, as Southwestern caught fire from the outside early. The Builders hit 12 three-pointers in the first half and shot better than 70 percent from deep, helping produce a 44–44 tie at the break. Oklahoma Wesleyan kept pace offensively, shooting over 50 percent in the opening half, but couldn’t fully overcome the early three-point barrage.
Southwestern edged ahead in the second half and did just enough down the stretch to secure the 83–80 win. Temaje Izuagbe led the Eagles with 16 points in the loss. The split leaves Oklahoma Wesleyan’s women with a solid road conference win, while the men head back looking for a few more missed shots from the other side, and maybe a little less three-point magic next time.
