Weather has thrown a curveball to many area baseball fans in the last couple of days. We’ll use this as an opportunity to check in on a few teams in the area that have been excelling on the diamond.

Caney Valley baseball has been the cream of the crop among smaller classification teams in the area. The Trojans currently sit at No. 7 in the latest OSSAA rankings.

Caney Valley was victorious in its own tournament in mid-March. The Trojans outscored their four opponents 52-12 en route to hoisting a trophy. Caney valley’s potent offense has scored at least 10 runs nine times this season.

The Trojans are 12-4 on the season. They'll take on Hominy in the Barnsdall tournament on Thursday.

Barnsdall’s success has also garnered some attention lately. The Panthers stand at 9-6 on the season but they’ve hit their stride in the last few weeks.

Barnsdall lost four of its first five games of the year. However, the Panthers have reversed their fortunes having won eight of ten contests since the rocky start.

The Cole Brother’s, James, Joseph and Jason have been instrumental parts of the Panthers success.

Barnsdall will be in action in its own tournament starting on Thursday.

Pawhuska’s squad has been hammering the ball lately. The Huskies offense has been one of the best in the area averaging 10 runs per contest over the last five games. Pawhuska has won four of those of contests.

Most recently the Huskies destroyed Mulhall-Orlando 11-1 last weekend. Brayden Wilson was a force at the plate as he drove home four runs.

Ryan Jones tossed a gem on the mound striking out eight hitters while only allowing two hits in a run-rule shortened complete game.

The Huskies will host Shidler on April 3.

We’ll have more on area high school baseball later on this week.
