Lady Doggers Tab New Coach

The Dewey High School girls’ basketball team announced a new head coach at Monday night’s school board meeting. David Vann has been pegged as the new head coach after Ernest Jones announced his resignation.

Jones spent three seasons with the Lady Doggers compiling a record of 24-50. Jones cited family reasons as cause for his departure. His daughter Karissa graduated in the spring after leading the team in scoring last season. She will headed to Pittsburg State to run track & field in the fall.

Vann comes to Dewey with a bevy of coaching experience. He was most recently the girls’ head coach at MacArthur High School in Lawton where led the Highlanders to a 14-13 record, including a postseason run to the 5A area tournament.

Vann spent just one season at MacArthur. Prior to that he was the head coach at the Dove Science Academy in Tulsa for two seasons.

We’ll have more on Lady Doggers basketball in the comings days.
