Mustangs Cruise in Consolation Round

 

Day four of the Caney Valley Tournament saw Wesleyan Christian take care of Copan, 62-44, in consolation bracket action. A second quarter barrage from outside the arc moved the Mustangs to a double-digit that they never relinquished.

Wesleyan Christian’s Clayton Holley provided the fireworks as he connected on four three-pointers in the second quarter. Holley had seven three’s for the game leading to a game-high 22 points. However, the biggest first half highlight for the Mustangs came on this fastbreak from Austin Cobb.

Copan played motivated defense in the second half. The Hornets reduced the lead to 11 points down the stretch but didn’t quite have enough to pull closer. Garrick Askew led Copan with 17 points.

The Mustangs are bound for the fifth place, while Copan will play for seventh on Saturday.
