NFHS Says Virus Will Call Shots

No official news from the OSSAA on what might happen this summer with offseason workouts and summer programs for local high schoolers, but the organization did post a link from the National Federation of State High School Associations talking about just that.

The NFHS came out with a post on Wednesday saying that the virus will make the decision on when high school sports return, not local or statewide entities, which have started to reopen.

The NFHS drove home the point that athletics will not return until high schools across the country start to reopen. Saying in part:

Without a doubt, education will play a larger role in the decision-making process for high school programs than for non-scholastic programs…  At the high school level, sports and other activity programs will most likely not return until schools re-open. High school sports and performing arts are education-based programs and complete the learning process on a day-to-day basis.”

June 1 has been the date that athletes and parents can look to locally, as the OSSAA will likely have some word on if those school-facilities can reopen at that time.

There will also obviously be consultation with individual school districts.
