No. 2 Oklahoma Union got past Dewey on Tuesday in a Northeast Valley Conference battle. The Cougars took their fourth straight victory 83-65. OKU has now won eight games in a row against Dewey dating back to 2018.

Dewey got off to a strong start in the contest. Jake LaSpisa hit two first quarter three-pointers. He led the team with 12 points on the day. This long jumper got the team going in the first phase of the game.

The Cougars would take the lead 11-10 lead on Kade Hollingshed free throws after he was fouled on a potential buzzer beater. OKWU would then start the second quarter on a 9-0 run on three consecutive makes from beyond the arc. Triston Davis’ sharpshooting helped spark the run.

Dewey would briefly cut the lead to six in the second quarter but Oklahoma Union’s pressure defense kept forcing turnovers to set up fastbreak buckets. OKU led 33-18 at the break and did not look back. Hollingshed scored 17 points and Jaiden Kennard totaled 16 points in the Cougars victory.

OKU is now 14-3 on the season. Dewey falls to 8-9 overall.
