Nowata Hosts Kansas for Homecoming

The search for victory No. 1 continues for the Nowata Ironmen as they take on Kansas High School on Friday night. This is Nowata’s first game in 2A District 4 play. Nowata is coming off a bye week.

In the final non-district game Nowata put together a great offensive performance. Despite missing some key pieces in the backfield the Ironmen ran for over 200 yards in the loss to Vinita. A key force in the Ironmen ground attack was senior Josiah Clark who compiled 78 yards and a touchdown as a fill-in fullback. Nowata coach Chris Messner praised Clark’s ability to step into the role.

Nowata fell to Kansas 20-6 on the road last year in a game that was tied entering the fourth quarter. The Comets stand at 2-1 after taking care of two Class A opponents. Messner says playing mistake-free football will be key.

It’s homecoming in Ironmenland. Radio coverage starts at 6:30 p.m. on KRIG 104.9 FM.
