OKWU Basketball Splits With KWU

It was another split for Oklahoma Wesleyan basketball on Saturday at the Mueller Sports Center.
The Lady Eagles dropped the opener to Kansas Wesleyan, 62-58. The Eagles picked up their third straight conference win, 77-64.
In the women's game, the Lady Eagles got off to a great start. They maintained a seven point lead at the end of the first quarter over KWU, 19-12, and a two-point leat halftime, 28-26.
OKWU's defense let up in the second half, with KWU winning the final 20 minutes, 36-30. The Lady Eagles were outscored in the fourth quarter, 21-15.
In the final four minutes of regulation, Gracie Alexander converted a three-point play to tie the game.
The Lady Eagles scored just one point in the final three minutes of the fourth quarter. Alexander led the way with 16 points.
The loss drops the Lady Eagles to 2-4 overall and 0-3 in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference.
In the men's game, OKWU trailed for only a few seconds early in the first half before picking up their third conference win.
The Eagles maintained a four point halftime lead on KWU, 36-32, before growing the lead to 16 midway through the second half. OKWU only shot 24% from the outside, but forced 21 turnovers defensively to get extra possessions.
In a tightly contested first half, this three-pointer from Yashi McKenzie gave the Eagles the lead in the final few minutes.
The Eagles outscored the Coyotes in the second half, 41-32. McKenzie finished with nine points, Nick Bene led the way with 14.
The win puts the OKWU men at 6-1 overall and 3-0 to start the KCAC campaign.
Both Eagle clubs have non-conference games on the schedule this week. The Lady Eagles return on Tuesday evening against Haskell Indian Nations University at home, tip-off at 5:30 p.m.
The Eagles are back in action on Friday morning against the University of Science Arts at 11:30 a.m. in a game from the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City. That ballgame can be heard on Sports Talk, 99.1 FM - KPGM.
