A Pawhuska coaching legend is gone, but will not be forgotten. Duke Atterberry, who served as head coach of Pawhuska from 1980-2004, had his memorial service at Ormond-Beach Memorial Stadium on Friday morning. It was announced that the Pawhuska Athletic Facility will now be re-named the Duke Atterberry Champion Factory and referred to as, “The Duke.”

Coach Matt Hennesy, who both completed his student-teaching under Atterberry and hired Atterberry to be an assistant coach at Pawhuska, will miss his mentor dearly.

Atterberry’s number 69 will also be retired in his honor.
