Pawhuska Football Gets Fresh Start with Hennesy

Spring represents a rebirth in more ways than one at Pawhuska.

Pawhuska High is one of the schools locally that is getting used to a new head coach. The Huskies tapped former Locust Grove skipper Matt Hennesy as their head coach. Hennesy has had a relationship with current Pawhuska Athletic Director Chris Walker for some time, which helped in his hiring.

The Huskies are coming off a winless season in 2017. Hennessey talks about the state of the program.

The majority of the athletes for Pawhuska will be freshman and juniors next season. The Huskies incoming freshman class is highly touted, it never lost a game in junior high. Hennesy says he expects some of those freshman to have to play a bit this coming fall.

Pawhuska drops from Class 2A to Class A in 2018 and 2019. The Huskies will be in District 5 along with Barnsdall, Hominy, Drumright, Morrison and others.

Hennesy went 52-18 during a highly successfully six-year run at Locust Grove, and has spent time at other bigger schools across the state as well.
