Pawhuska Gets a Split Decision at Pawnee

Thursday night's road trip to Pawnee resulted in a split decision for the Pawhuska Huskies, as the girls came away with a narrow loss and the boys won with ease.
The Huskies built an early lead and built upon it as the night went on en route to a 45-34 win. Pawhuska led 26-19 at halftime and stretched that lead to 16 going into the fourth quarter. Leading by seven midway through the third quarter, this steal led to two easy points for Pawhuska.
Darian West and Jaden Spicer were both in double figures for Pawhuska, who moves to 11-9 on the year.
The Lady Huskies were in a defensive battle and fell short, 28-27. With nine seconds left, Pawnee missed both free throws, but got the offensive rebound and despite attempting to foul, a whistle never blew.
Neither team ever led by more than six. That was a 16-10 Pawhuska lead at halftime. In the early stages of the fourth quarter, this sequence helped Pawhuska's cause.
Pawnee's Lola Spears was the difference. She scored 18 of the 28 points for the Lady Blackbears, all of those coming off made three point field goals. Five of those were made in the second half.
Brooklyn Miles led the way for Pawhuska, finishing with 14 points. The Lady Huskies fall to 17-3.
Pawhuska is back in action later today at Newkirk. That is a game you can hear on 99.1 FM KPGM and streaming on KPGMTV.com. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
