Pawhuska Huskies, Lady Huskies are District Champs

Both the Pawhuska Huskies and Lady Huskies got convincing victories over Wyandotte on Tuesday night and were crowned district champions.

The Lady Huskies led wire-to-wire and ended up getting a 46-30 win. After getting out to an 11-2 lead. A three-pointer at the buzzer from Na'Veah Taylor gave Pawhuska a 22-11 lead heading into halftime.

Pawhuska was unable to extend the lead beyond 11 points until they entered the fourth quarter when a quick scoring spurt from Shelby Laird extended the lead to 13. Taylor finished with 10 points, while Jordan Nelson and Laird added nine apiece.

It was defense that spurred the boys to a 63-31 victory, allowing only eight first half points. After leading 14-5 at the end of the first, the Huskies would go on an 18-3 run, allowing Pawhuska to extend that halftime lead to 32-8.

Holton Justus finished with 18 points, while Jamar Goff and Isaiah Walker each had 14 points.

Pawhuska is next in action on Thursday in the first round of the regional tournament. The Lady Huskies will take on Fairland at 6 p.m. nd the boys will play Colcord at 8. Both of those games can be heard on Sportstalk KPGM FM 99.1 and audio will be available on KPGMTV.com.
