Riley Wants Football - Preaches Caution

Oklahoma head football coach Lincoln Riley had some strong words about the return of college football and how the season might start back up amid the coronavirus pandemic.

In a virtual press on Thrusday afternoon Riley was mostly optimistic that football would happen this year, but he drew a stark contrast to some of his peers, saying that players have no business being on campus anytime soon.

The comments came just a few hours after news had surfaced that the SEC was considering allowing players back on campus on June 1 or June 15.

The Big 12 Conference has been mostly mum on when it might allow students back on campus. Earlier this week Oklahoma State University announced that it would keep its campus closed to students until July 7, which would seem to indicate that football players could not return until after that date.

Riley says despite all this, he thinks there will be football at some point in the near future.

Riley also said during the call that sophomore receiver Jadon Haselwood will be sidelined for a bit and would miss some time this fall. Riley says he suffered a "freak accident" at home. He said the incident was non-football and non-workout related.

Sooner football will air on 100.1 - KYFM and on the Bartlesville Radio app whenever college football is played next.
